AGILE MANAGEMENT – WHAT IS IT?

Agile management is one of the ways of project management. It may be the most demanding way to manage projects, but nowadays it is also considered one of the most effective.

In the case of project management, we can distinguish several methods that are used by far the most often. The methods most often include traditional and agile management. But what is the difference between them?

As agile project management training indicates , in the case of agile project management , we usually deal with a very universal, flexible and creative method. It also requires a lot of creativity and flexibility from those involved in the project.

Numerous managerial trainings in Wrocław show that agile management works perfectly in many cases, especially when it is difficult to clearly define certain elements of the project. Agile methods allow you to constantly respond, adapt and react quickly.

Traditional project management methods have a slightly more rigid framework. Project management trainings show perfectly what are the relationships between traditional and agile management. They also show, without any major problems, how much both management methods are applicable in the day-to-day project management.

It is worth being aware that different projects of different nature may require different management methods. Moreover, it happens that in one project its various elements are managed in a different way.

For this reason, it is important to know all these methods in order to consciously and comfortably use them in any situation. Management training in Wrocław may help in gaining such skills and experience, during which various types of project management are discussed, both traditional and agile (e.g. scrum training ).

In any case, however, it should be remembered that project management requires appropriate competences, skills and experience, which will certainly be very helpful.

AGILE METHODOLOGIES

AGILE, OR AGILITY

Although the concept of agile methodologies did not come into widespread use until 2001, many of the methods now called agile were used before. Many practitioners emphasize that they were simply a manifestation of the sense of people trying to improve software development processes. Today, agile methodologies are certainly one of the most popular approaches to building software, but not only!

Despite their IT origin, these approaches are successfully transferred to an increasing number of areas, such as industry, education, human resource management or even healthcare.

Today, entire companies are often organized in accordance with the principles of broadly understood agility. Because Agile is not only a way of working, it is an entire culture and philosophy of operation focused on the rapid delivery of value, continuous analysis and process improvement, and the effective use of the manufacturers’ potential thanks to self-organization and decision-making.

WHAT IS AGILE?

Overall, Agile is a group of work methods such as Scrum , Lean , XP, DSDM (and many others) that are based on an iterative-incremental approach. This means that they focus on fast, cyclical and orderly delivery of successive working elements of the product, thanks to which they enable greater flexibility, which is important especially in frequently changing business conditions.

These methods were created as an alternative to the traditional approach to project management, in which usually the final product was delivered to recipients only after many months or years of work and often turned out to be inadequate to the actual needs of the client.

Agile methodologies

Agile assumes frequent inspections of requirements and solutions as well as a continuous adaptation process, thanks to which it guarantees that not only the product itself will be of high quality, but also the production process itself will constantly increase its efficiency.

AGILE MANIFESTO

All the rules of agile performance management work were written in 2001 and included in the so-called Agile Programming Manifesto. It contains the basic assumptions of Agile and has been the most important common point for all Agile methodologies since its inception. Below you will find the content of the manifesto:

We discover new methods of programming thanks to practice in programming and supporting others in it. As a result of our work, we began to value more:

People and interactions between processes and tools

Working software from detailed documentation

Cooperation with the client from contract negotiations

Responding to changes from the implementation of the assumed plan.

This means that the items on the right are valuable, but the items on the left are more valuable to us.

The Manifesto talks about software development because, as we mentioned before, agile methodologies come from the realm of programming. Currently, they have already been adapted to virtually all business areas. However, the Manifesto of Agile HR Development, which was created a few years ago and signed by almost 30 HR practitioners from various regions of the world, deserves special attention. This is evidence of how widely agile practices can be applied. Here is the content of the Manifesto:

We discover new methods of building and developing an engaging culture of workplaces through practical activities and by supporting other people in them. As a result of our work, we began to value more:

Networks and collaboration across hierarchical structures

Transparency above secrecy

Ability to adapt beyond the norms and orders

Inspiration and commitment beyond managing and maintaining the status quo

Internal motivation over external rewards

Ambition beyond duty

This means that the items on the right are valuable, but the items on the left are more valuable to us.
